School Council
What a great start to the year, children have raised over £200 for YoungMinds charity. More recently, we have raised £196 towards Children in Need. School council captains are currently working hard with their classes to come up with ideas on how to support our local community.
In December, we will be working with Four Greens to collect food to donate to their food bank. In the past, we have helped a number of families during Christmas time and it is great that we get that opportunity again! Keep your eyes peeled for Reverse Advent dates.
Meet our School Council Captains...
What is it?
School Council gives children the opportunity to share their ideas about our school and how they think the environment can become a better place. They also discuss any ideas they have for fund raising, fancy dress and ways to support the community. Miss Russell (council lead) arranges a number of meetings to take place throughout the year . Each school council member has a school council book to record all of their classes' ideas, times and dates of the next meeting and also any points they would like to raise in the next meeting.
In school council we all wear badges; which are yellow and bright. These help children to recognise who we are.
Who is involved?
Each class has 2 school councillors; these then represent all of the classes in the school. Our council captains are shown above.
Plans for the Future
- To help make further fundraising decisions
- To get involved with other campus school councils
- To liaise with areas in our community and to organise community action days
- To develop ideas for behaviour and respect for the environment in our school
- To continue to work with Four Greens Community Trust
What decisions do they make?
When we all come together in our meetings we talk about many different things such as: things that are happening around the world, events coming up, performances and our environment.
For example, Hello Yellow day was such a success last year, the children have decided to raise money for Young Minds charity again. Wear something yellow on Tuesday 10th October.
If your child has any ideas, please tell them to speak to their class School Council Rep or their class teacher.
Convention on the Rights of a Child - Article 12: 'Every child has the right to have a say in all matters affecting them, and to have their views taken seriously'
Together we can make a difference!
